Our services include:
We want to empower consumers to achieve their financial goals through a human-centered approach and innovative technology, advancing financial well-being with advocacy, education, and innovation.
Our nonprofit organization has a rich history. It was founded by George Janas, an insurance industry veteran, in 1998. George noticed that many hardworking people faced financial troubles, especially after experiencing life-changing events they couldn't control, such as death, divorce, disease, or job loss, and found it difficult to recover. Initially, people would find ways to pull money together to pay bills, but over time, they would hit a breaking point as little things continued to pile on. Debt could and did ruin people's lives. After seeing it happen repeatedly, George decided to start a nonprofit to provide financial literacy programs for consumers.
With over 25 years of experience, we have been instrumental in helping consumers chart a path to financial recovery. Our national headquarters is in Winter Park, Fla., and we are a proud National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) member. We are also a certified housing counseling agency, certified by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Executive Office for the United States Trustees (EOUST) has approved us to issue certificates in compliance with the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. We are licensed, bonded, and ISO 9001:2015 certified, demonstrating our commitment to excellence.
As a nonprofit company, we commit to furthering our mission for the betterment of the American public. To accomplish this, Consumer Debt Counselors embraces value-driven leadership. Our values govern our behavior as we interact with our clients, the public, and each other.
